Living Room Interior Design | Vibrant Colored Living Room Carpet

Whether you have hard wood floors or wall-to-wall carpeting in your living room, there are ways you can spruce up the interior design of the living room by adding vibrant accent area carpets (rugs).

Using vibrant colored accent area carpets and rugs are a great way to enhance the look of the living room when you have neutral colored furniture and hard wood floors. Using area carpets and rugs if also totally do-able if you already have wall-to-wall carpeting.

The idea is to have the snazzy bright colored carpets and rug "pop-up" amongst the more "sober" pieces of the living room.

The vice versa hold true as well. If you have vibrant furniture pieces, you will want to tone it down with neutral colored area carpets and rugs.

The below is an informative article on how to choose carpets when decocarting your home.

How to Choose Carpets When Decorating Your Home
By Kathy Burns-Millyard

Before buying a new carpet, it's vital to find out as much as you can about the different types - how they're made, what they are made of, and how well they'll wear- to be sure of choosing the right quality for each room.

Ideally, choosing the carpets for your home should take priority over any other decorating decision. As well as providing a warm, hard-working covering for your floors, a carpet contributes a significant area of color, texture, and sometimes pattern to a room.

Whether you are starting from scratch or replacing an old carpet, selecting a new one that suits your lifestyle and meets all your preferences - for color, pattern, texture, warmth, sound insulation, quality, and cost - is one of the most momentous and expensive choices you ever have to make for your home. Reconciling all these factors with the bewildering variety of carpets available can seem daunting for the first-time carpet buyer. To ensure you make a suitable choice and get the best value for money, it pays to do your homework.

Buying Carpet

Check through the following points to make sure you have all the information you require to make the right choice for you.

Do I want a wall-to-wall or an area carpet? Wall-to-wall carpet is the most popular choice for providing luxurious comfort and style in a room. If you are intending to move soon, or want to feature an attractive floor, an area rug is a more practical solution.

How much can I afford to spend? Always buy the best quality carpet you can afford; cheap carpets are a false economy because they wear and stain badly. Bear in mind that you will probably have to buy more carpet than the area of the room to allow for fitting around awkward shapes, such as a chimney breast.

Will I have to pay for the installation? It's always wise to have a carpet installed professionally to get it stretched properly so that it wears well. Many suppliers offer free installation.

Where do I buy carpet? Carpet is available from large department stores, furniture or carpet showrooms, and local flooring specialists.

How do I buy carpet? New carpet is sold in one of four ways:

Bodywidth is usually 2, 3, or 3ft wide, to minimize waste on stairs and in hallways. Broadloom comes in a range of widths over 3ft - 12ft and 15ft are the most common sizes - for fitting wall to wall.

Carpet squares or rectangles are room-sized rugs with tightly bound or fringed edges. Carpet tiles are small squares of carpet that are laid and lifted individually. Book a time for installation when you place your order, allowing a few days for delivery.

How much carpet will I need? Some suppliers will bring samples to your home and measure before quoting a price. When visiting showrooms, measure the room first and take along a sketch plan giving the dimensions to discuss with the sales staff; they will advise on how to arrange widths for minimum waste, and where to position any seams inconspicuously and to avoid wear.

What type of carpet do I need? Jot down any questions you want to ask the sales assistant about wearing qualities, soil, stain, fire resistance, pile fiber, and density. When appropriate, check whether the carpet is suitable for installation in a bathroom or kitchen.

What color carpet do I want? Take samples of wall coverings, paints, and fabrics you want to match to the shop. Then take a swatch of carpet home to check it in daylight and under artificial lighting. At the same time, think about any special effects you want to achieve, such as warming a cold room or lightening a dark one, making a large room look cozier, or adding a pattern.

Can the carpet be fitted on my floor? For even wear, the floor must be perfectly clean and smooth. Make sure that all loose floorboards are fixed, planed, or covered with plywood, and solid floors are level and dry. When you have any doubts, ask your carpet retailer for advice.

English Country Home Decor Ideas

One of the more popular trends in interior designs is the English country home style. I think this has been fuelled in part by the number of celebrities who have second homes in the country side - how many of us have seen interior design shows featuring celebrities' country homes and wished we had that for ourselves. One of the more chic ideas in country home decor, is the English country home. There is a certain elegance and sophistication about the English country home that is very appealing.

Well, we may not all have the luxury to have a second home in the countryside, but we can certainly create an English country home for ourselves in the place we live in.

This article focuses on creating an elegant style of English country home through tips and ideas on English country home decor. It is not as hard as it might seem!

Take a read :)

The Elegant Style Of English Country Decorating
By Lee Dobbins

If you are considering redesigning or redecorating your home, then why not adopt the formal and elegant charm of the English country decorating? By applying a blend of toile, formal furniture and antique accessories plus formal but neutral colors, this design can enhance any type of home. By making use of this decorating style, you can have the regal look of the English countryside no matter where your home is.

With this style you want to be sure to use the right fabrics and window treatments are key. You might want to buy curtains that are formal and get some decorative pillows to match. Decorating with striped or flowered curtains would look nice or you can go with the classic toile pattern.

Just like anything else, it's a good idea to include the proper lighting fixtures for your English country decorating theme. Your decorating theme will look richest if you deploy lighting that is formal but elegant. Choose accent lamps in rich brass or crystal but don't pick anything with a lot of prisms or fringe.

Pull your design together with coordinating artwork and accent pieces. Decorating with items that exude a regal and elegant appeal compliment this type of room design. Purchasing decorative accessories which match with your personality and preferences will make the room your own. Look for antique boxes in beautiful woods, crystal decanters and vases, old master style paintings and framed needlework to complete your decor.

You can pull the whole room together by using coordinating accent rugs on top of rich hardwood floors. Look for rugs in creams and beiges with a formal style. Oriental style rugs can go great with the English country look.

Use inviting sofas and chairs with a formal but not overstuffed look. For wood, you want to go with mahogany or cherry wood. In the dining room, needlepoint seats on the chairs add elegance and interest.

If you want a traditional and formal look, then the English country decorating style is perfect for you. By selecting the right accessories, furniture and colors, you will be able to make your place look like it was decorated by a professional without having to pay the high price!

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas | Bathroom Chocolate Color Designs

When I first moved into my new apartment, I wanted desperately to do complete bathroom remodeling for both bathrooms. The bathrooms in the apartment were last renovated in the 1980s! And it looked old, worn down and in serious need of an uplift, particularly the bathroom in the master bedroom. I suppose that the bathroom in the master bedroom had been used more than the other one. It seemed that a complete make-over in the order of bathroom remodeling was needed.

So I called a contractor, who scared with descriptions of hacking up bathroom tiles, dragging the broken tiles and concrete from the bathroom through my living space and out of the house - all done within one NOISY week. Then scared me even more with the price. One complete bathroom remodeling for a bathroom was approximately $6000-$7000. And I do believe that price quote was on the low end.

I had to look to alternative solutions to give the bathrooms a make-over. I found out that brilliant paint work for the walls, cabinet replacements and other affordable changes can make a difference to the overall look of the bathroom. For instance, with my small changes, the bathroom tiles were no longer looking as bad as I had initially thought, in fact, they were in pretty good condition after all.

Here are some tips to help you achieve a brand new bathroom without having to spend an exorbitant amount on bathroom remodeling.

Bathroom Remodeling:
Remodeling the Bathroom Doesn't Have to Be Expensive
By Andrew Stratton

Standing in your bathroom, you look around and see a room that you just don't like anymore. In these economic times, bathroom remodeling is the last thing you need to be worried about. But, you don't have to live with a blah bathroom.

You can create the room you want and do it on a budget that won't cause you any financial strain. Here are some creative ways to change the look and feel of the room without spending a fortune on bathroom remodeling:

Paint-This is the easiest and cheapest form of bathroom remodeling. Measure the length and width to determine the square footage of wall space. One gallon of paint covers roughly 350 square feet. With the average cost of decent paint being about $25 and the wall space likely being minimal, you can update it by adding or changing the color. Be bold and have fun with this.

New Hardware-Change all the knobs and pulls on the cabinets. This particularly goes a long way to updating the look of old cabinets. Hardware can be expensive, but if this is the only step you take, don't skimp. Get some dramatic pieces that add flair to the room.

Change Fixtures-By fixtures, this means the towel bars, the faucets, the lighting and mirrors. Do your sinks still have the stock faucets? These days, the faucet fixtures are as much a work of art as they are functional. Instead of plain old mirrors, trim them out like a portrait or hang them away from the wall at angles for a geometrical look.

Light fixtures offer a lot of remodeling opportunities as well. You can even change the bulbs to add color with a soft pink, blue or whatever matches your decor.

Decor-What colors are you using as accents in the room? Maybe it is a mish mash of stuff. Pick a theme-Asian, Spa, Contemporary-and get new a new shower curtain, rugs and towels that carry out this theme. Add some flowers, candles, mirrors-whatever enhances the new colors and theme.

DIY Tile-If you don't go for the most expensive tile out there, just doing this one thing can update the look for under $1,000. Take a tile-laying class at the local home and hardware store or buy a book. This room is not going to be that big, so you can handle it. Pre-measure everything so you can have them cut the pieces of tile that you will have to fit around vanities, walls and corners.

You don't have to do all of these steps to make a difference. Pick and choose a couple or do just one thing. Even subtle differences can change the look and feel of the room.

How to Create an English Country Home Decor in Your City Apartment

One of the requirements for an authentic English country home interior design would be a larger kitchen with a warm and earthy color scheme. This aims to breathe fresh life into the typically small living spaces of city apartments.

Here are some ideas on how to create an English interior design look in your home.

A Warm Space - Living Room

An earthy color scheme, popular in English homes, can be employed in the living area. A sand-colored sofa set and a low-rise wood coffee table sets the tone, while complementary large floor cushions - which can be neatly hidden under the coffee table when not in use - can provide additional seating when needed. Windows can be dressed up with inexpensive fabric panels instead of expensive draperies.

The same design language can be continued in the other rooms - such as the bedrooms.

Keeping it Simple

One of the thngs most evident in modern homes is its ability to be fashioned in modern design lines without being too stark. And this can be done in creating an English interior design look in your home too.

A Bigger Kitchen

The entire kitchen can take on the earthy warm color scheme as well. Bulky equipment can be stored neatly to create a clean look. The microwave oven can be housed on a specially designed platform above the dishwasher.

Home Accents Ideas | Brighter Carpet Colors For a Modern, Bolder Room

How can you add color to your home? Well, the easiest way to add color to your home is through well-placed home accents such as carpets and rugs. Carpets and rugs that are bold in color can instantly pop out a room.

Here are some ideas I have selected for various rooms:

Article:

If you've recently moved into a new home or you're looking for a way to add a modern boost to your current living space - the answer could be right under your feet. Most homes, especially if they're new, feature a neutral colored carpet. Typically, you'll be working with something along the lines of light beige to maybe a dark tan color. Although these neutral colors are great if your room is composed primarily of brown hues, you may want to go in a different direction with the look and feel of the space. Whether you want to brighten up a previously neutral room or you're looking to modernize your home - updating your carpet color could be the solution you're looking for.

Although you don't have to go drastically bold with a bright red or neon green, you can certainly add color and style to a room with a brightly colored carpet. Complimenting bright floors with toned down walls creates a fun and coordinated atmosphere without overwhelming. For example, if you're looking to make a room feel lighter and bolder at the same time - you may feel as though you've hit a brick wall. Rooms that require this kind of attention can often be awkwardly shaped and/or don't get a lot of natural lighting. If this is the case, lightening the room up while still creating that bold style can become conflicts of interest. A great way to do this is by placing a deep hue on the floor and choosing a lighter, pastel shade of the same color for the walls. The pastel color will help reflect the light that does come into the room while the carpets will give that coordinated and rich look that so many homeowners desire throughout their homes.

If you have wooden floors and aren't crazy about the idea of placing carpet over them completely, you still have options. Throw rugs and area rugs are a great way to add a pop of color and still keep your beautiful wooden floors. These small rugs can act as the perfect accent piece to any room and certainly give that "modern" look that so many strive for today. If you have a primarily black and white room, adding a red throw rug underneath the coffee table can add a pop of color instantly the room. If you have a primarily brown or tan space, which go great alongside hardwood floors, you can add pizzazz to the room by choosing a cool leopard print or a boldly patterned rug as the perfect accent piece. Although many homeowners think they have to turn to the walls to add that pop of color or bold pattern, the floor offers plenty of space to give your room personality.

So even though the idea of a bright red throw rug might seem strange at first, you will be amazed at the subtle, but beautiful, impact that a brightly colored or patterned rug will have on your room. If you've moved into a brand new home, picture your floors as blank canvases. Although you may be used to focusing on the wall colors for the décor of the room, choose some carpet colors as inspiration, as well. By coordinating your room from the ground up - you can be sure that your finished product gives you the results you've dreamed of... and then some.

Bedroom Furniture and Decor | How to Get Bedroom Color Scheme Ideas From Bedding Ensembles

How does one get started on interior designing their bedroom. A lot of people tend to choose colors that they like to start a color scheme for home decoration. But that may not always be the right option when it gets translated in the bedroom. A bedroom has to be calm, inviting and soothing because that is where you unwind after a day's work! It is not always possible to unwind and relax in a bedroom that is too bright for instance. These are just some things to keep in mind when selecting a color scheme for bedroom decor and interior design.

The article below by an home decor expert suggests getting inspiration for color scheme for your bedroom interior design from bedding ensembles. It is a great idea, I think. Stroll past the section where beds have been made out, and check out the play of colors and see if they appeal to you BEFORE you start designing. Great idea :)

Blue Chocolate a Good Combination for a Bedroom

Article:

If you are not sure where to get started choosing a color scheme for your bedroom then here is an idea to get some easy designer inspiration.

Go where bedding ensembles are sold!

Pop into your local department store and you will often see many beds on display in the bed linen department made up to show the effect of the bedding set or range when put together to best effect. They often have additional accessories such as cushions and throws to enhance the overall look.

You will usually see all the latest color schemes in bedding for the current season on display there and hopefully you'll find plenty of inspiration if the designers have done their job well.

Select a patterned comforter or duvet cover you like. If you decide to purchase the bedding you can pick out the colors from the design for the other items in your bedroom and you will have a ready made color scheme where the bedding ties the whole look together.

Even if you decide not to buy the bedding set, you can still learn how the different colors in it work together so that you can look out for these in other (perhaps cheaper ranges) or just use the colors together in your room scheme.

If you don't have the budget for new bedding you could use plain white or cream bedding (whichever suits the other colors more) and use the colors in your accessories and so on however you will usually find the same color trends (though not the same quality) across all prices ranges in bedding and may still be able to treat yourself to some bedding in your chosen color scheme.

If there are no large department stores in your local area, then you can do a similar exercise with online stores. Browse around those sites which have many images of the latest bedding ensembles to get some good ideas.

You will see from this that bedding ensembles are a great starting point for a bedroom color scheme. Professional designers have put the colors together so you know they work. Using a bedding color scheme has to be the easiest way ever to kick start your bedroom decorating project.

How to Interior Design a Small Bathroom Space | Small Bathroom - Best Bathroom Decor

It is difficult to interior design for small spaces.

And bathrooms are especially tricky because of water pipings limit the ability of moving things around.

Even more so with small bathrooms.

There are also issues of storage space to contend with.

But you can be creative in choosing appropriate decor for the small space bathroom so that it stands out instantly.

I have been toying around with vibrant colors for bathroom interior design and bathroom decor and accents. Here are some really cool ideas I came across.

Wall-Mounted Bathroom Storage
A cool idea when you are lacking space for floor cabinets.

Bamboo Shower Caddy
This is so beautiful - no more tacky steel ones that rust!

Wall Shelves in Bathroom
IThis is an innovative idea to place shelves/racks in small bathrooms.
Why crowd the floor space when you can use the walls?

Bold Vibrant Blue Bathroom Interior Design

Vibrant Red and White Bathroom Interior Design
Bold colors pop out instantly. I love the play of red on white tiles!

Here is one expert's take on small bathroom interior designing and bathroom decor:

As the fields of interior design and home improvement have become more popular in recent years, the formerly often neglected bathroom has been getting more attention than ever. Many people are turning their plain bathrooms into lush getaways or sophisticated spas. Small bathrooms, however, pose unique challenges when it comes to design.

While the lack of space may make it impossible to install a large garden tub or double sinks, there are still ways to give even small bathrooms a much needed facelift.

Often the biggest problem in small bathrooms is the lack of storage space. To create room for storage, it is necessary to get creative. Look for storage units that are wall mounted. A cabinet over the toilet or a shelf over a bathtub can add valuable space for storing bathroom essentials. Some storage solutions, such as a large basket for holding rolled up towels, can double as design elements.

If creating additional floor space is your design goal, look around and see what you can downsize. Removing a large vanity and replacing it with a pedestal sink will free up a large amount of space, and it is also more stylish. If your small bathroom has a tub and shower combo, consider removing the bathtub and downsizing to a free-standing shower instead. If you would like to keep the bathtub but wish it was smaller, opt for one designed to fit in a mobile home.

Due to the smaller area, smaller bathrooms often are less expensive to work on. Less space to fill and smaller square footage typically result in a lower bill for materials. Use this to your advantage to really make your bathroom an asset to your home. Small accessories add interest to the design as well as personal touches that will turn that small bathroom into your dream bathroom.

Kitchen Furniture | Recent Kitchen Cabinet Style Trends

The kitchen is an important room in the home - so paying attention to the interior designing the kitchen is crucial to creating a beautiful home. The kitchen should exude warmth and pleasure - feelings associated with food. One way to interior design with warm colors in the kitchen is to choose appropriate types of kitchen cabinets.

Kitchen Cabinets Interior Design

Here is a helpful article on picking good kitchen cabinets:

Cabinets are among the most essential part of your kitchen that not only greatly affects the overall functionality of the area but the appeal as well. Being the most visually dominant, they get a good amount of attention from homeowners and get a large part of the remodeling budget. Any changes made to them could make the most dramatic statement. And like anything else, kitchen cabinets continue to evolve to meet the changing times and needs of the household. So if you are planning to enliven the heart of your New York home through new or improved kitchen cabinets, better be on the lookout for the most recent styles ideal whether you are in Long Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island or Queens.

Richer Tones with Bold Colors to Match

The lighter hues of fruitwood and oak have been replaced by cabinetry finishes like Amaretto, Java, Chestnut and Bordeaux while the classic richness of cherry and maple remain famous to updated homeowners and designers. So if you love wood and want to be stylish, the timeless appeal of maple or cherry would work perfectly. The richer tones of these options offer a more luxurious and intimate touch to the cabinets and overall design of the kitchen. And unlike in the past, your countertops to match need not necessarily be neutral. Bold colors to complement the richer tones are also popular.

Antique

Though genuine antique kitchen cabinets would be great, the trend does not require them to be true. Brushing techniques can be used to achieve that popular antiqued look which is basically in a glazed or distressed finish mimicking that of well-loved furniture pieces. Glazing makes up for a great alternative to having naked wood doors since onlays are already out.

Sleek Modern and Sophisticated

Clean and contemporary lines are still in when it comes to kitchen cabinet style trends. Mission style is currently standing out with the geometric sleekness but still welcoming feel that it offers. Though the simplicity in façade, organizational features inside kitchen cabinets are getting more and more sophisticated. A number of drawer organizers, swivel or swing-out shelves, roll trays, pull-outs and other innovative features free both the kitchen and even the insides of cabinetry from clutter and eyesores. For easier access to items, the visibility of contents is improved through chrome rails.

Less but More?

Style trends in kitchen designs still dictate an airier look and feel. With this, cutting down on wall cabinets and opening up more space through maximized lighting is the way to go. But even with fewer cabinets, you can still ensure enough or more storage space through innovative organizational features mentioned above.

But like any other trends, not all would look great with it. It is important that you assess everything first before jumping into replacing and improving the look of the kitchen cabinets. Being the building blocks of the kitchen which is the strongest selling point of homes, do not be afraid to invest. Be fashionable and enjoy the added functionality that trendy kitchen cabinets offer.
